Gundam Assemble Is Here: Bandai's Gunpla Tabletop Game Explained
Gunpla just got a battlefield. Gundam Assemble, Bandai's new tabletop miniatures game, launched in October 2026. You build small Gunpla miniatures, paint them your way, then field them in fast squad battles on a tabletop map.
Here's what Gundam Assemble is, what comes in each set, and how to get started.
The short version: about 5 cm miniatures you assemble and paint, 3 vs 3 squad battles to start, dice and cards for combat, and new releases every month. The Starter Set 01 has everything two players need for a first game.
What is Gundam Assemble?
Gundam Assemble is a competitive miniatures game from Bandai's tabletop team. Each unit is a miniature roughly 5 cm (about 2 inches) tall. You put together a set of parts, paint them in whatever colors you like, and every player ends up with a squad that looks different from anyone else's.
Bandai designed the rules for short, decisive matches. Players take turns choosing movement and actions for their units, then roll dice to resolve attacks. Battles play out across terrain on the game board, so where you move your squad matters as much as what's in it.
The launch started with five products released at the same time in October 2026. Bandai plans monthly releases after that, with more than 30 items planned worldwide within the first year.
Starter Set 01: everything for your first game
The Gundam Assemble Starter Set 01 is the place to start. It's built for two players and a 3 vs 3 match.
What's in the box
- 6 unpainted miniatures: RX-78-2 Gundam, Char's Zaku II, Wing Gundam Zero EW, Gundam Epyon, Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex and Gundam Vidar
- 6 Unit Cards and 18 Tactics Cards
- A game map and a cardboard terrain set
- 10-sided dice and game tokens
- A handbook and 2 quick reference sheets

That roster mixes eras on purpose: the original Gundam and Zaku, two Gundam Wing favorites, and two suits from Iron-Blooded Orphans. Pick a squad by show, by looks or by how each unit plays.
Deluxe Set 01 and the first expansions
If you want a bigger game right away, the Deluxe Set 01 recreates the Battle of A Baoa Qu from the original Mobile Suit Gundam. It's built around 5 vs 5 battles with battleship-class units on the board, and it comes with 13 miniatures from both sides of the One Year War, including the White Base and a Musai.

Two expansion packs add new units to either set:
- Expansion Pack 01: the Unicorn Gundam (Destroy Mode), Delta Plus and Kshatriya from Gundam Unicorn, with 3 unit cards and 9 tactics cards.
- Expansion Pack 02: three mobile suits from The Witch from Mercury, focused on long-range combat.
Every expansion works with either the Starter Set 01 or the Deluxe Set 01.
Painting your squad
Painting is a big part of Gundam Assemble, and the miniatures come unpainted. Bandai and Mr. Hobby made a matching paint line, Gundam Assemble Color: water-based Acrysion paints made for brush painting, in colors like Char's Pink, Gold and the classic Federation blue, red and yellow.
You don't need an airbrush. A couple of small brushes, a few base colors and a steady hand are enough for a great-looking squad. If you've panel lined a Gunpla kit before, you already have the patience it takes. Our panel lining guide covers the detail work, and you can browse the paints in Gundam Assemble.
Tools for building the miniatures
The minis are small, so a good pair of hobby nippers and some tweezers help a lot. Our Gunpla tools guide covers the basics, and everything is in Tools.
Where to play
Bandai runs organized play through its Bandai Tabletop Games platform, where stores can list events and players can register for official tournaments and track match records. Watch your local game store's calendar, or start a league with your build group.
Is Gundam Assemble for you?
- You build Gunpla and want to do more with it: yes. It's a new way to enjoy building and painting.
- You play miniatures games: the 3 vs 3 starting size keeps games quick and the collection affordable.
