Big news for SEED fans in the US: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO is coming to North American theaters in February 2027. Bandai Namco Filmworks announced it on October 13, 2026, at the Gundam Showcase panel at New York Comic Con, where fans saw the first teaser trailer.

The panel also showed new Gunpla from the film, and the English voices of Kira, Athrun and Shinn confirmed they're coming back. Here's what was announced and what it means if you build SEED kits.

SEED FREEDOM ZERO: what we know

  • When: North American theaters in February 2027. An exact date hasn't been announced yet.
  • Where it fits: the story takes place between SEED Destiny and the SEED FREEDOM movie.
  • Who wrote it: the script is by the late Chiaki Morosawa, the head writer of the SEED series. Planning Producer Kaori Shida explained it was written to explore the characters' feelings in more depth while FREEDOM was being made.
  • The teaser visual: Shinn Asuka takes center stage this time, with Kira Yamato and Athrun Zala behind him. The heavy use of red is a nod to Shinn's signature color, and to how he's feeling after the events of Destiny.
  • The English cast returns: Matt Hill (Kira), Sam Vincent (Athrun) and Matthew Erickson (Shinn) will reprise their roles in the English dub.

New to the timeline? The watch order is SEED, then SEED Destiny, then the SEED FREEDOM movie. SEED FREEDOM ZERO slots in between the last two. Our best Gundam SEED kits guide has the full watch order and a kit for every era.

New SEED Gunpla on the way

The panel unveiled new Gunpla from SEED FREEDOM ZERO, including the Infinite Justice Gundam with a Booster Unit, a Murasame Kai and a Gouf Ignited Custom, along with figures of Shinn, Lunamaria, Leonard Valway and Lacus. Bandai hasn't shared release dates or prices for the kits yet. We'll list them as soon as they're available to order.

The cast clearly builds, too. Matthew Erickson, the English voice of Shinn, calls himself a Gunpla nerd, and the panel showed off his handmade diorama recreating a scene from the final episode of SEED Destiny.
